NOTICE OF ELECTION AND CANDIDATE FILING APRIL 2, 2024 MUNICIPAL ELECTIONNotice is hereby given that an election for a two-year term to the offices of Alderman, Ward 1; Alderman, Ward 2; Alderman, Ward 3; and Alderman, Ward 4, as well as a one-year term to the offices of Alderman, Ward, 2, and Alderman, Ward 4, will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 in the City of Town and Country. Residents wishing to file for candidacy must do so in the office of the City Clerk beginning at 8:00 AM on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 through 5:00 PM on Tuesday, December 26, 2023. The City Clerk's office will be open from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM for filing, with extended hours until 5:00 PM offered only on opening and closing day. The Municipal Center is located at 1011 Municipal Center Drive, Town and Country, MO 63131. Following opening day, appointments are strongly encouraged to ensure the City Clerk's availability. Candidates filing for a ward with multiple openings must indicate the desired term to ensure proper placement on the ballot, and only one may be selected. Qualifications for Alderman include being at least eighteen (18) years of age, a citizen of the United States, an inhabitant and resident of the City at least for one (1) year preceding the election, and a resident of the ward from which he/she is elected. Section 115.306.1, RSMo., provides that no person shall qualify as a candidate for elective public office in the state of Missouri who has been found or pled guilty to a felony under the federal laws of the United States of America, or to a felony under the laws of this state, or an offense committed in another state that would be considered a felony in this state. Section 115.306.2, RSMo., states that any person who files as a candidate for election to a public office shall be disqualified from participation in the election for which the candidate has filed if such person is delinquent in the payment of any state income taxes, personal property taxes, municipal taxes, real property taxes on the place of residence, as stated on the declaration of candidacy, or if the person is a past or present corporate officer of any fee office that owes any taxes to the state. That same state statute also requires that each potential candidate for election to a public office shall file an affidavit with the Missouri Department of Revenue and include a copy of the affidavit with the declaration of candidacy required under section 115.349, RSMo.
